SMELA is a young technology company based in Magdeburg. Since 2020, we have been developing, manufacturing and selling compact and energy-efficient electromechanical drives.
SMELA was founded in 2020 by Dr.-Ing. Denis Draganov, Oleksandr Tyshakin and Benjamin Horn in Magdeburg, a historic center for mechanical engineering. The first pilot series were delivered to plant manufacturers and operators as early as 2021. Close collaboration with early adopters provided valuable market feedback – and confirmed the performance of our technology in industrial applications.
In 2022, the completely redesigned and industrialized liteECO® BASE series was launched. Thanks to its controller-independent operation, it continues to be the preferred choice of numerous system integrators for integration into existing BUS architectures. The BASE series has grown from an initial 4 configurations to 80 standard variants and several customized versions.
As early as the end of 2022, SMELA began working closely with automotive OEMs and complementary partners inparallel with the BASE series. The demands placed on decentralized drive technology – including safety functions and harsh environmental conditions –led SMELA into an intensive development phase for the INTEGRATED series, which went into series production in 2024 and 2025. This series can be flexibly installed in the field via various interfaces and is continuously expanding with new communication options and functions.
By the end of 2025, SMELA had reached a key growth milestone: its existing production facilities were operating at full capacity. By moving into new premises and tripling the available floor space, we are laying the foundations for a sustained increase in production throughput. At the same time, we are gaining valuable space in which the core team can continue to drive forward its creative ideas and design developments.
